One year of lineage 2 servers statistics

It’s been an exciting year since l2foryou.eu began tracking Lineage 2 server data in June 2024. As we celebrate our first anniversary, we’re excited to share some fascinating insights and statistics with the community. The data presented below covers every server listed on l2ForYou.eu from June 1, 2024 to June 1, 2025.

Totals

Over the past year, l2foryou.eu has recorded 1,017 brand new Lineage 2 server launches—this count includes only fresh starts, excluding bonus starts or content updates. Please note that our policy is not to list Open Beta Test (OBT) servers in our database, so these numbers reflect only official live server openings. That averages to nearly 2.8 new servers per day, or about 20 every week! These figures highlight just how active and passionate the Lineage 2 private server community remains, constantly evolving and expanding.

When breaking down the 1,017 new server launches by game version, Lineage 2 versions (c1 to h5) dominated the scene with 841 servers, accounting for the vast majority. Essence followed with 141 servers, while Main(God) and Classic versions were relatively rare, with just 18 and 17 servers respectively.

Total opened servers by game version
June 1, 2024 - June 1, 2025
Lineage 2:841
Essence:141
Main(God):18
Classic:17

This trend shows that most private servers still gravitate toward the classic Lineage 2 gameplay. Many of them use Essence, Classic, or Main clients but base their content on Interlude or High Five. So even if the client is modern, we group servers by their actual game content. That’s why there’s little point in running a retail-like Classic server when you can deliver Interlude or H5 gameplay using a modern client with all its convenient interface enhancements.

It’s also worth noting that the overwhelming lead of the lineage2 version is largely due to the popularity of high-rate Interlude and High Five servers. These types of servers tend to reopen frequently—sometimes even monthly—further increasing the total count.

Rates

Let's break all those servers into three categories based on their rates:

  • Low up to x9
  • Mid from x10 to x100
  • High anything above x100 (101+)

Out of 1,017 new servers registered by l2foryou.eu, the distribution across rate types is surprisingly balanced: 257 low-rate, 390 mid-rate, and 370 high-rate servers. No single category dominates the scene, showing that Lineage 2 players have diverse preferences—some enjoy a slow, nostalgic grind, while others seek faster progression or instant PvP action. This balance highlights the vibrant and adaptable nature of the private server community.

Total opened servers by rates
June 1, 2024 - June 1, 2025
Low:257
Mid:390
High:370

Next, let’s break down each rate category and see how different game versions are represented within Low, Mid, and High rate servers.

Total opened servers by rates grouped by game version
June 1, 2024 - June 1, 2025
Low
  • Linage 2 158
  • Essence 76
  • Classic 12
  • Main(GOD) 11
Mid
  • Linage 2 313
  • Essence 65
  • Classic 5
  • Main(GOD) 7
High
  • Linage 2 370
  • Essence 0
  • Classic 0
  • Main(GOD) 0

When we break down server rates by game version, we notice a clear pattern: high-rate servers are exclusively based on Lineage 2, with no presence of Essence, Classic, or Main versions. As the rates decrease, the variety of versions increases, — low and mid-rate servers include more Essence, Classic, and Main-based setups.

It’s also worth noting that the number of mid-rate Essence servers is noticeably high, largely due to a few Essence-based projects like pwessence.fun that reopen every few weeks, boosting their total count over time.

Next, let’s explore what kinds of modifications these servers offer and how customized the gameplay really is.

Mods

To get more info about what each modification means, visit our information page.

We counted the presence of each mod across all new server launch events from June 1, 2024 to June 1, 2025. This means that every time a new server opens we included its mods in our tally. This approach reflects how often players encounter each modification in fresh Lineage 2 server experiences.

Among the most common mods, autoevents 582 (57%) and buffer 572 (56%) stand out, appearing in over half of all recorded server events each, followed closely by autofarm 441 (43%). Other popular mods include champs 250 (25%) and multiprof 110 (11%), while more niche features like offlinefarm 40 (4%), nodual 22 (2%), and gve 10, (1%) are less frequently seen. These numbers highlight the features that server administrators prioritize to enhance gameplay and attract players.

Frequency of mods in opened servers
June 1, 2024 - June 1, 2025

The percentages shown represent the proportion of total new server events 1,017 during the tracking period that featured each modification. This helps illustrate how commonly each mod is used across all new server launches and re-openings.

Also note, we consider a server to have buffer only if it offers a full buffer — including all third-level buffs, dances, songs, and so on. Servers that provide only a limited buffer, such as a newbie buffer or buffs restricted to specific levels or premium accounts, are not counted as having the buffer mod. Additionally, all Essence servers are not counted as buffer modded because buffs in Essence are considered a default self-buff feature. However, all Essence servers are counted as having the autofarm mod—even though autofarm is not a modification but a retail feature—because this prevents confusion for users filtering servers by modifications looking for autohunt and not seeing any Essence servers listed.

Let’s break down modification frequency by game version. We calculate percentages based on total server opened by specific version. You can see totals at the start of this post. 841 Lineage 2, 141 Essence and so on.

Mods percentage of server by version
June 1, 2024 - June 1, 2025
Lineage 2
  • autoevents 547 (65)%
  • buffer 556 (66.1)%
  • autofarm 276 (32.8)%
  • champs 244 (29)%
  • multiprof 56 (6.7)%
  • offlinefarm 2 (0.2)%
  • nodual 3 (0.4)%
  • gve 10 (1.2)%
Essence
  • autoevents 23 (16.3)%
  • buffer 1 (0.7)%
  • autofarm 141 (100)%
  • champs 1 (0.7)%
  • multiprof 46 (32.6)%
  • offlinefarm 36 (12.8)%
  • nodual 18 (0)%
  • gve 0 (0)%
Classic
  • autoevents 8 (47.1)%
  • buffer 10 (58.8)%
  • autofarm 9 (52.9)%
  • champs 2 (11.8)%
  • multiprof 5 (29.4)%
  • offlinefarm 1 (5.9)%
  • nodual 1 (5.9)%
  • gve 0 (0)%
Main(GOD)
  • autoevents 4 (22.2)%
  • buffer 5 (27.8)%
  • autofarm 15 (83.3)%
  • champs 3 (16.7)%
  • multiprof 3 (16.7)%
  • offlinefarm 1 (5.6)%
  • nodual 0 (0)%
  • gve 0 (0)%

We see that over 65% of all Lineage 2 servers include the buffer mod and automated events like TVT, CTF, and similar. About one-third of them also offer autofarm features. In contrast, Essence servers are considered autofarm-enabled by default—since it's part of the retail gameplay—while only a few are marked with other mods.

It’s worth noting that older GOD chronicle versions didn't originally feature autofarm, so we register server as autofarm based on server descriptions. Since not all admins provide detailed info, there might be inconsistencies.

Languages

Let's take a closer look at the languages used on server websites (note: this is about website content, not the game client language). Many servers present an English homepage, but once you dive into the description, it redirects to a forum or page written only in Russian. That makes it difficult to properly evaluate the true language support.

Also note that we check a server’s supported languages only once—when we first register the website in our database. If additional languages are added later and we’re not notified, that information is not updated manually.

Another potential misunderstanding arises between Brazilian Portuguese and European Portuguese. Since many server websites don’t clearly distinguish between the two—or use a mix of both—we’ve chosen to group them together under a single Portuguese flag for simplicity.

For our stats, we count a server as supporting a language if its homepage has at least a basic translation in that language. The frequency is based on all 1,017 servers opened between June 2024 and June 2025 — showing how many of them support RU, EN, and other languages.

Frequency of languages in opened servers
June 1, 2024 - June 1, 2025
  • Russian 964 (94.8%)
  • English 567 (55.8%)
  • Ukrainian 107 (10.5%)
  • Portuguese 106 (10.4%)
  • Spanish 77 (7.6%)
  • German 42 (4.1%)
  • French 39 (3.8%)
  • Chinese 24 (2.4%)
  • Turkish 19 (1.9%)
  • Korean 16 (1.6%)
  • Greek 12 (1.2%)
  • Vietnamese 4 (0.4%)
  • Lithuanian 2 (0.2%)
  • Polish 1 (0.1%)

Russian language is dominating the Lineage 2 private server scene, with 964 out of 1,017 servers opened in a year supporting RU language. Shoutout to lineage2.ms — they opened 2 servers with support of Lithuanian language (even if the translation is terrible), and melcosoft.cc for their Polish language support.

And what do you think — will Russian servers start adding more support for Chinese language in the future?

So which chronicle is king?

Next, we’ll take a look at chronicle counts within each game version. By the way — does anyone still think C6 holds the crown? Soon I’ll run a query on our database to dig up the facts. [drums intensify in the background]...

Yes, it’s Interlude with 644 servers out of 1,017 — the undisputed king. Next is High Five with 166 servers, and the bronze goes to Essence: High Elves with 72.

Just two notes: Some progression servers start from earlier chronicles such as C1 and gradually update to newer versions over time. In such cases, we update their chronicle in our database to reflect the latest version they've reached. So, a server that started as C1 might now be listed under C2, C3, or beyond. This applies to Essence servers as well — many begin on one version and upgrade as new patches are released.

Also, some servers don’t specify which chronicle they are running. In those cases, we simply repeat the version name, such as Essence – Essence or Lineage 2 – Lineage 2.

Here we go again

And let's grab something unusual from the l2foryou.eu database as the cherry on top. Let’s highlight the most frequently reopened server — the one that shows up again and again in our database with new wipes and fresh starts.

Now, whether that’s a badge of honor or quite the opposite — we’ll let you decide. But for server hoppers, it might actually be a blessing: no need to look for a new server after two weeks neither bother install a new client each time.

Note: We’re showing the top 3 projects that opened the most fresh servers during the selected period. If a project opened, for example, one x1 and one x5 server — both are summed. Only fresh starts are included, so progression servers are counted just once, regardless of how many updates they go through.

1 skillessence.fun – 16 openings (project appears closed or the website is currently unreachable)

2 xessence.fun – 14 openings

3 l2mad – 12 openings

As mentioned earlier, frequent wipes and restarts might skew some of our previous statistics. A single project with many fresh launches can significantly influence trends, especially when counting modifications, chronicle popularity, or language support.
